I am purchasing a new trimmer soon. It will be the handlebar style with a harness. I have a very long ditch and a pond embankment to do. I was looking at the Stihl FS130 and FS250. Does anybody have experience with either of these? Are there other models I should consider? I have also noticed they offer several styles of harness'. I almost forgot, this is not turf type grass but more tall weeds. Although the ditch is too rocky to use a blade.

I havent used the stihls that you listed but have put the echos to the test. The trimmers that you listed should work fine, just remember to use eye protection.:cool2:

The 250 is a beast. It will go through anything you ask it to. The 130 is good, just not as powerful.

go with the Stihl FS250R, I use them for right or way weedeating, residential & commercial weeding also, the FS250R only weighs 13.0oz same as FS130, and is by far the easiest starting, smoothest running, powerful weedeater Stihl has made. I do not use a shoulder harness, nor do I find the FS250R heavy. I have a Box full of shoulder harnesses, what's the point they always have limited my range of motion while running the weedeater's

FS250 is very good!! Would you consider Honda HHT35S with bike handle? It is 35cc, 1.6hp. It should be cheaper than either one you mensioned and should be very reliable. It is a 4 cycle, torque might be good. It is heavy but you use full harness, it don't matter. Honda GX35 is being used in construction equipments also, and........it is a Honda.

I myself have the HHT31SUNBA. I love it!!! I have been cutting waist high weeds and all, it went through like butter and is very comfortable. I can do one or two hours none stop. It is so quiet which is important to me. I also like the fact I don't smell anything because it is a 4 cycle with no oil. It runs clean!!! I was looking at the FS250, not seriously because it is expensive and must be very loud!!!.

The 250's get a bit heavy toward the end of the day.

The poster specified that he is going to use the harness. Once you use the harness, weight really not an issue at all. I use my Honda an hour or two at a time none stop until I finish doing the job. Particularly I have the bike handle, it is so comfortable. If weed wacking is the main job ( not doing edging and others that require you to change position of the trimmer all the time), Bike handle is the way to go.

I like my Honda, I have no prove, but I think the Honda engine is going to out last all the 2 cycle engine and particular the hybrids 4 cycles. The cable drive is warrante for life. People don't like it because it is heavy. In this particular case, weight is not an issue because of the harness. It is strong, it is a big engine. It supposed to be a gas safer, funny that Maruyama use Honda engine to compare with them for gas saving. I am sure it will be a big difference in gas usage comparing to FS250.

As for FS130, I don't think I should say more about 4Mix engine!!!! I have enough enemies already:cry: Read the past posts and go to other lawn sites like ********* or Tool Shed.

Sorry yungman but the Honda is not in the league of the trimmers being mentioned!

Check out the Husky 335 and 345 as well. Any of those would be good choices.

It is in the league of FS130 that the poster mensioned, that is the only reason I even mension Honda. I am not implying to compare with the real big boys. FS250 and the two you mensioned are giants, they are way over 2hp!!!!:laugh:
