The best HEO (Heavy Equipment Operator) course that I know of would be the U.S. Navy Seebee's. Some of the best equipment operators I've ever known were ex Seebees.

Depends on who is running them. If a large contractor(s) is running it in order to find the best operator's, that is usually a pretty good school. If it is a tech school, it can be hit or miss depending on the level of involvement of the Heavy Equipment dealers. The AGC has an excellent school in our area each spring.

Can't help you on the wages, though I will tell you that most of the best paying contractors will want you to have had this training, as well as your experience.
