Help! ‘89 Ford F-250 Dead Dead Dead

    My Ford died on me today and I’m at a complete loss as to what’s wrong with it. (no Ford jokes please)

    ’89 F-250 300 c.i. Strait 6, manual 4 speed, 2WD

    Running and starting good all day, never had a problem in that area. Get to a job today, shut it down and when I’m finished I jump in and turn the key, nothing. Not even dashboard lights. No radio, no headlights, nothing.
    Hook it up to a friends F-350 to jump it, nothing. Dash lights and radio won’t even come up.
    Put it on the hook and drag it home. Battery checks out good. Replace battery cables, starter cables and solenoid. Check the three fusible links I can find and still nothing.

    Where to I go from here? This thing is so dead it’s unreal. Nothing seems to be getting power.

    Any advise on which direction to go would be appreciated. (heading to the Ford dealer to buy was my choice but the wife shot me down on that one)

    fried starter solenoid or shorted battery

    bad or dirty ground. battery to truck or engine to truck. did you try different battery? cant think of anything else if you checked every single fuse

    bad solenoid
    happens quite often.

    look above the right tire well and look for the small black componet the wires go into.
    they only cost about $15.00 and you can replace it in about 10 minutes.

    I am reading no electric to anywhere in the system. My uneducated guess would be Corrosion somewhere in the wiring harness.

    Thanks for your input guys. Heading out to dig into it again now. Let you know what I find today.

    Gotta be a short somewhere. Maybe in the wiring harness?

    The solenoid on my 90 ford went all the time i kept an extra one handy just incase.Be sure to check all your wires make sure they have good connections.

    I pour coke or pepsi on my battery terminals to get the corrosion off them. Corrosion can mess up a wiring system and cause it not to make contact. I would start with a test light and check from the battery on down the line to find the short. Good luck I think the 300 6cyl is one of the best engines made by ford for a pick up. As a Flatlander it will hual my skid steer which comes to just over 6 ton with trailer.

    To clean battery terminals I use baking soda and water. Sounds like the power going into his main fuse panel is absent. Need to check a fuse to ground for 12 volts. Also check the body to frame braided grounding strap and engine to frame. Depends on where the negative battery cable is connected.
