Help!!! cant figure this out.

    Travis...these are a high compression close tolerance engines....
    If you take shortcuts and slap them together...you usually get to do it again...
    That's why it costs so much money to get them professionally built...experience ain't cheap...
    When you get tired of buying oil by the case and smoking out your customers...
    Take it back apart and take a good look at EVERYTHING....

    thats what doesnt make since. I had absolutly zero oil consumption for first 10 hours. Im getting 170 psi one one and 175 on another. the thing is its doing exactly the same thing it was doing before I did rings. When the engine is cold it doesnt use any oil only when hot and sometimes it will just send a big puff like its building pressure than just shoots it out.

    On the questions i did use standard rings. No on resurfacing. It was just smoking and low on power so decided to put new rings in and I didnt know if it had ever been done. No silvery residue.

    Let me correct myself i didnt really mean constantly smoking but only when engine gets really warm and it will smoke and then stop and back and forth.

    could the engine be overheating causing the oil to thin down and smoke? Just an Idea

    after the engine warmed up I got really low compression readings. When i took off the head there was a pretty good gap between piston and cylinder. i thin k i may need oversized pistons and rings. where is a good place to get them. What is the stock bore size. and piston size. Im thinking the guy that had it before me might have had it honed or bored a little bigger

    Wish you the best on this as a good mechanic is one you need to take care of and keep on the Christmas list just for these reasons. I need to take a small engine class myself to learn more

    yah im used to motorcycles, atv's etc. Not engines that are closer to car engines. Im gonna do some measuring tomorrow to check everything out.

    i replaced lifters, head gaskets, exhaust valves. It runs amazing but only getting 160 psi in each cylinder. I was getting 175. im gonna pull the pistons and rings and look at them. Something must have happend after the ten hours when it was running great
