I live in zone 5, a transition zone. Most lawns are fescue here and that is where this weed came from, growing within fescue. Seems to grow where the soil is extremely wet. If you need another pic, just let me know. If you can't tell by the pic, the blades are a light green, lighter than a fescue blade.

    Thanks

    Yellow nutsedge

You need to know a few things about it to get it under control.
It is a"sedge" not a grass
Triangular stems instead of round like grasses.
Has "bulb-lets"on roots that make it tough to control.
Don't pull up as that encourages it to spread.
    Prefers damp,poorly drained areas.

Their is a control product called "Manage" that works. We buy from Lesco. Its expensive however It goes along way.

May take a couple of seasons to completely control.I would add additional sticker because of its waxy cover.

Agree, nothing to add to Gary's excellent post.

Thanks for the posts. I did notice that it was extremely difficult to pull while keeping the roots attatched, even while soil was very wet. I will check into "manage" and pass on the information to my client.

    Thanks again
