OK to make a long story short, I am considering buying a Z with a Kawi engine on it. Problem is, it does NOT have an engine HP sticker on it. It is a 531 V. In all the info I have found, this engine is rated anywhere between 17-21hp. But the specs are all the same. This includes that it also matches the new model #'s like 601 V, 641 V , & 680 V. That includes up to 23 HP now.

    Specs

    675cc / 41.2 ci

    17, 18, 19, 21, 23 HP

Help me! All I have done is confuse myself. I am just trying to make sure I'm not getting jerked around here. I'd hate to think of buying it thinking it was like a 21 or something only to find out in the spring growth that it's only a 17.

Can anyone lend any info that might help me to identify what HP this engine is? THANKS A LOT!

I guess that is the new model #'s.

Bottom line as I see it is all of the ones listed are 675 cc engines. So I guess the different HP's might come from carbs, exhaust, ect.

With the one I'm looking at being a 531V, I guess it's probably either an 17, 18 or 21hp engine. Question is, which one???

I guess either way it has to be a stronger engine than the 17hp 500V engine I was looking at.

Nobody has the scoop on this????

Come on now, I thought there were some guys here who own or work at dealerships?

What if I needed a part for it? Then what?

Thanks for any help anyone can give....

The only difference in the 18 hp opposed to the 17 hp is the carburetor. The block is the same. FH451V, 500V, 531V all the same "small" block. FH601V, 641V, 680V, 721V all same "big"block.

Close but no cigar on that one! The 531V is a big block as you call it, not a small block like the 451V (15hp) or the 500V (17hp).

    Check the data yourself....

Thanks anyways though! I just realized there are only 2 different blocks. A 494cc and a 675cc. The 531V is the 675cc like the 19-25hp models. If the carb is the only difference, it still seems there should be a way to find out what HP it is. I mean, what if you need a carb part or something? How are you supposed to make sure you get the right little part?

    Envy,

Jimbo's link, while not in english puts it in black and white!

It looks to be a 494cc 18hp@ 3600 rpm engine with 39Nm of torque.

Kawi engines usually have a sticker on the engine describing its "cc's" and date of build, etc.

This is for sure an oddball engine. Looks to be in the old 17hp twin class. What brand of ZTR is it on?

TLS, while I did look at that link, I have found that it is not all together correct. Maybe you might want to look over my last post again. It is a 675cc engine. This also explains the huge torque difference between the 17hp and 18hp engine.

I'm just trying to figure out if there is some serial # code or engine # code that seperates one HP from another?

    Envy,

    I've read your posts. :dizzy:

You state that you "know" that it is a 675 cc engine..... You know that because?....
Is there a sticker on the side that states it? If so, that really helps matters here.

Again, what brand ZTR, what year, size cut, etc.
