I need some help, the #@%& deer have rubbed 2 of my red maple trees. I planted them 1 year ago. They are 6-7 feet tall and maybe 4 or so inches around. I strung wire around them to stop the rubbing. What can I do to the areas they already rubbed? Use a wrap, or tar ? Please help.

    Thanks,
    Trent

Take a piece of 4" or 6" flexible plastic drain pipe. Cut it as long as you need, then cut it lenghtwise. Now, open it up and place around your tree. This will protect the bark from the deer antlers. Or shoot the deer. As far as the rubbed areas, you can just trim the hanging bark off. Sometimes, if the tree wasn't rubbed too bad, it will survive.
