Does anyone know what this might be. small transparent worms about a 1/4 of an inch or less eating the grass roots and everything in front of it. They don't look like anything i have seen before. There was a clump of them all on top of one another in one area if that helps. Heres a pic but not a very good one.

what does the damage look like? is there still turf, easily pulled back and sawdust is exposed from the chewing? Or, does it look like the lawn is eaten down to the thatch layer.

I say that little critter is sod webworm larvae. Little too early in my opinion though. Was it friendly? Did you stick your finger in the middle of the worms and it crawled all over you? Does it have spots on the body? Black head? If so sod webworm. Billbug larvae look like grubs, not worms.

I think your right. I just remembered that when i went to kneel down a white moth flew up from the lawn. Thanks Kroher and americanlawn for your input.

I think it's safe to say sod webworm larvae.

Yeah, notice that picture says "Mature" though. Yours must have just hatched.
