Help With 5hp Briggs

    Okay here I am a year later and no spark. Why oh why don't I listen to you Rob.:cry::cry: Popped the flywheel off with the BFH and sitting looking at those pointss:cry:

    Well, your choices are still pretty much the same this time around...

    Clean points again knowing they will need need cleaning/replacement at some point. Or replace points and condenser.
    B&S Part Number 294628

    Or

    Install a "Magnetron" kit onto your existing coil leaving the old points in place. They are just left in place to keep the plunger in place from leaking oil.
    B&S Part Number 394970 (see picture).

    Or

    Replace your points style coil to the current version with the "Magnetron" built into the coil as mentioned prior.
    B&S Part Number 397358 (see picture).

    New coil came with magneto, put iton and with a little shot of quick start away it went.:clapping:

    Thanks to all on lawnsite I can move this project back to storage waiting for spring.

    Yeah, Ed, that's to plug the points plunger port if you remove the points and condenser.

    Ed, I just finished up a small engine class for a group of home schooled boys--one of the kids brought a lawn edger with a Briggs points and condenser ignition. The kid didn't want to spend any extra money at the time. We honed, adjusted and cleaned up the points, cleaned and lubed the starter clutch--fired right up. At least the kid knows the procedure when spark fails completely.
