Hi I have a troy-built 33" walk behind with a checkmate lawn roller on it. It seems to take two mows for the stripes to stand out. Then when I go to mow in a different direction it doesn't really stripe....the grass just kind of camouflages together and you can barley tell where I just mowed! I don't know whether the mower is just not a good one to stripe with or what. Please feel free to leave anything.

    Thanks
    Ryan

Most of the time to lay down good stripes

the roller needs to be adjusted about 1 to 1.5" below the deck.

then you WILL HAVE TO DOUBLE CUT and or bag...

    Good Luck

To make a nice checkerboard stripe: go one direction one week, the other direction the next week (or both, if you're double cutting) then choose either the light or dark stripes (from the viewpoint you want), and run over every other stripe again to really make the pattern pop out.

Of course, I don't do this very often, but when I want eye-popping stripes, it works great.
