Ive got a problem lawn I could use some suggestions for. This lawn is new to my company this year. It is in a 10-15 year old development in Central Massachusetts. It is fescue turf that has some yellowing spots. Ive treated for grubs with dylox and those arent the issue, its spots here and there. The lawn used to be treated by Truegreen a few years ago and then has been left alone by the customer for the past 5, just mowing only. I cant get any answers one way or the other about how the grass was planted but it feels like it was sodded. I can feel it move under the wheels on the zero turn mower and if i can get my hand into the soil I can pull the grass up almost like new sod. I have tested for PH and fertilzer and fertilzer came back really low. I'm guessing the major issue is shallow roots and Ive shown them to the customer and said its probably going to take some time with some slow release fertilizer to fix the problem and its not going to be over night. I'm cutting it at 4.5 inches when we mow. It wouldnt be an issue but the rest of the neighborhood is green green green from all the rain we've had up here this past month and as soon as we got some dry weather her grass yellowed right up. Any suggestions as to what I can tell her or some other steps, short of irrigation, I can take to help her out?
