I have a customer that wants me to put in a garden for them (not real fond of planting the stuff but hey if they want to pay for it ill do it) but my question is that she said that they wanted herbs but wasn't sure if they work good in a garden or just plant them in containers in the house. I am not that familiar with herbs and wasnt sure what would be best any help would be appreciated

do a search for companion planting with herbs,if you know what herbs they want i can give you some ideas or the other way if you know what vegtables and or flowers they want that works too.

Find out if they want just the basics (a couple each of dill, basil, parsley, rosemary, etc..) or if they want large masses of 'em (like lavender for the flowers).

Ask them which herbs they have in mind. Some will be perennial where you are, others will not. Plant the perennial ones separately from the annual ones. Most herbs will do well in large containers in a sunny spot.
