I had an idea about building a spreader/sprayer out of a ztr mower with a electric spreader and a 25 gal 9ft boom sprayer.

My question is " What should I expect to pay for a used ztr? What is a reasonable amount of hours on a motor? I don't need the mower deck at all and would that be worth anything if I sold it?

Yea, I'm too "frugal" to buy a $10,000 name brand.

Why not spend less than $5 grand and get a Permagreen??? I guarantee you'll treat more turf with a Permagreen than you will with a homemade Z set-up. :) ;) :) ED

My concern with the Perma-green is the ability to do hilly turf. I never test drove one but it looks kind of unstable for hills.

Also the spray system concerns me, problems with burn due to low volume-high concentration?

The other thing is I looked at a new one at Lesco and the fit and finish looked sloppy, gloppy welds, sharp edges, I don't know it just looked rushed.

thanks, I had seen them but I really need to get a feel for what a used ztr is worth and what problems to look for when shopping for one. I know squat about mowers.

when you take the mower deck off of a zero turn mower, don't you think that you'll lose alot of your stability going up hills?

  7. UNless you mount the tank in place of the deck.

Used good ZTR under $5000, but can it handel the extra 500-700 pounds you will be adding to it?

I'm figuring on using the 100 lb spreader and 30 gal sprayer, about 400 lbs total plus me at 200lbs. Think there would be a problem? I looked at turf trackers and the frame looked stock Dixie chopper.

  9. Don't forget about the weight of the equippment also.

    30gal at 10# per a gal is 300# + 100# of fert = 400 plus 100# of extras.

I have seen the turftracker, they seem to be stock 50" DC's.

    Tihs is additional weight.
