Home Shows

    I have tried most forms of advertising and ways to promote my company.

    I am thinking about trying the Home Shows in 2010.

    I am a irrigator and I am going to push water efficiency with some give-a-ways.

    Any of you guys have luck with the Home Shows? Any irrigators or similar type of business that need to pick more then a few customers to pay for the show?

    Home shows are hit and miss. If you only work a limited area it could be a waste because people come from miles away. A company I know did a spring home show and he said they kick ass and it only cost him 700.00 for the booth for the weekend. How dry have you been this year? If it has been dry people will think about irrigation for next year.

    I could not emgine a " Home Show " I mean really, what are you going to show them. home movies ?

    leave the home shows to the ladies trying to sell tupperware

    No, our Home and Garden Show is around March of every year. I am talking about it now because I am trying to plan ahead.

    Most Home and Garden shows are early Spring before the growing season kicks off.

    Good point about the how people come from all around and your service area may be limited. I know a lot of companies live and die with their Home Shows, I guess I will have to crunch the numbers for show and go from there. Thanks

    If you are in the industry may you should attend your Houston area Home and Garden Show, so you can see what it is like and what some landscapers are trying to sell.

    Go for it. I think you should try anything once. $700 is nothing in advertising. You just might have to be creative on a booth for irrigation that will catch someone's eye. It would seem to be hard to have a example of your work in a small booth... not enough room for that I-20 at full blast, but maybe you could think of something neat and eye catching.

    ICS. If your thinking about the home & garden show in march at the mpls conv cntr. I would probably do it. However, issue some press releases to like fox 9 or kare 11 on how great your water savings are. The somolians do it all the time to get on tv I think an irrigatior can do the same. try to stir up some free buzz so when they come to the show so you dont get lost in a sea of other irrigation contractors. Talk to the IA and have them help you. A few simple phone calls to the right people should get a little more interest.
    the reason being is, it is the most $$ home and garden show for the amount of $$$ spent for the amount of people attending. So you have to work imo 2X as hard to make your company stand out.

    These are just a few thoughts.
