I have a 3 year old Mantis tiller with the Honda GX25 4 stroke. It will start and run if you hold it full throttle. When you let off the gas it dies instantly. It has enough oil, new gas, clear fuel filter, new spark plug, and clean air filter.

Do you think the carb is just dirty? I find this hard to believe because I have kept the filter clean.

I haven't seen many of the Mantis tillers but I seem to recall that they were equipped with Walbro WYB carbs. If the engine runs OK at top speed, I'd suspect an obstructed idle circuit. If the carb is a WYB, I would guess it has fixed idle and hispeed jets. If it has adjustment needles, you might try opening the idle adjustment screw a bit.

If you have Honda engine numbers, it might help in further identifying your carb.

Dutch, I will look when I get home. I think it is a walbro and I don't think it has accessible adjustment needles.

Dutch, the carb has no needles. It has 98 647 stamped on the bottom.

    The engine says gx25 T3** GCART-1041008

I took it apart and soaked it and it runs better than new. There was a lot of dirt in it. The air filter is really not adequate considering how close the engine is to the dirt. Thanks!
