I just bought my first ZTR (Ferris 1000z) and would like to know if the hour meter just runs when the deck is engaged. It appears to be that way from the schematic and in operation. I would like to know the time on my engine and not just the deck. Has anyone ever rewired the hour meter?

I believe the meters on my SKAGS run when the key is in the "ON" postition, That's one reason why I make sure the guys always turn the keys to "OFF" when getting off the mowers and the engine isn't running. That will give a false reading on your engine hours run time. Of course, there are other reasons for turning the ignition curcuit off.

I base my deck/blade maintainence only in part on the hours showing.

The hour meter on my Gravely 260Z runs when the key is in the "On" position.
