does leaving the key on in a JD 2005 485 run up the hour meter??
No, don't worry about it.
JD built their mowers special like that.
I know someone is buying one, and they told him that the key was left on and it has 1000 hours instead of 300?? so treat the buy as if it has 1000 hours on it...
I don't believe hour meters.
Sometimes they're disconnected.
Anyway, there is a stark difference between a mower with only 300 hours and one with 1000.
You should be able to tell just by examining the wear and tear on it.
I'm not a rocket scientist but it would seem to me that the battery would run down WAAAAAAAY before the 1000 hour mark.
Pull up your britches, the BS is all around you.
I left the key on in a near new Grasshopper and it took about 50 hours for the battery to run down.
