I have to aerate one lawn becuz of compaction, so anything I do at the 1/4" level is not going to get 'er done, unless I aerate first... If this job gets too hairy, I may just run a slitseeder through after the plugs dry out...

Usually the overseed just means getting the seed washed under the dead grass and letting it go... barespots are usually worked up with the garden weasel, unless those spots are compacted, it works well anytime of the year...

Then all of the details are finished up at Dormant seeding time... Adding compost at anytime is always a plus and gets the seed going at a great pace...

since we have so much seeding to do, we bought a crop dusting plane and modified it to drop grass seed out the back.

Can I ask, after slice seeding an existing lawn to thicken, can you spread compost after seeding? Or should you do before?

Getting as much compost on top of the seed as possible is the goal...
