What has been the most successfull way for you getting accounts?

Going door to door with flyers?
Sending out a bunch of post cards?
    Customers getting you more customers?
    Buying accounts from people closing?
    Something else?

just curious what has worked for you.

Word-of-mouth is my number one, but starting out signs placed at busy intersections worked great.

I usually run an ad in the local paper. I also have picked up from word of mouth. I turn down alot of work from family and friends. I have tried that road before and it usually didn't work out to well.

Started small and grew through word of mouth and people approaching me while on a customers lawn. If you do good work, have reasonable prices, and a good looking rig the business seems to grow itself. I have used flyers to get into some new neighborhoods close to home. So far it has worked. I'll drop the flyers through the whole neighborhood and feel lucky to get a couple. Once I get those couple accounts I'm in the neighborhood for everyone else to see and judge my quality of work. From there it usually snowballs into a whole days worth of mowing in 1 neighborhood.
