I get 80% from the website and the rest from word of mouth or neighbors.
Fall 2011 I spent $800 on google adwords and picked up $4000 new aeration and overseedings. Did not use adwords this fall but still had a full schedule.
yes i remember picking up at least one account from somebody who read the truck lettering while getting gas at the next pump.
several years ago we used to hang brochures on doorknobs in a neighborhood after finishing up a lawn. got one that way but it seemed like a lot of work for just one account.
A big thing ive learned is networking is key. Im doing the interior demolition on three buildings for a buddy who does renovations. I refer him an he does the same. Posted via Mobile Device
I ran a small 1" ad in the yellowpages for the first 4yrs then I got rid of the ad. Most of my customers are from the ad. But the yellowpages are fazing out these days, I think more people use the internet. All I have now is my website and pay $15 a month to be found with search engines. With the yellowpage ad I was getting every tomdickandharry calling me to sell something to me, but it wasnt like that in the begining.
Seems like internet is popular, So....- How do you get your website noticed more??? I personally have had good luck with word of mouth, getting out there, and being consistent ( showing up when your supposed too:hammerhead I picked up a customer last week for next season due to the fact i do a nice job every time im at the neighbors house, and dont have a huge ZTR lol
my signs on my trailer, door hangers, newspaper ad, yellow pages, craigslist. the most effective way I found is to "knock, knock, knock" and "sell, sell, sell". it doesnt really matter how popular the internet is, people really seem to respond well to face-to-face interaction.
Use the Internet to get you in the door then it's up to YOU to sell the jobs. Google adwords work great as does angies list, in conjuction with a website, use the website to show off your work.
I think this is what worked for me also. I focus on doing a quality job, and over time, word of mouth has brought me more customers. Referrals is always a great way to get new customers because someone has already spoke on your behalf to help "sell" the job.
Strong form of advertising. Also, while doing a yard, I always make a point to wave to neighbors, or start a conversation if they are out. Ive picked up a few other customers this way...and the bonus is less travel. At one point I had 4 residential customers that were all grouped together. Make for less travel time and more cash.
I got a call for a craigslist shopper yesterday- needed leaves blown.. I was finishing a job when they called, i returned the call literally 44 minutes later exact and the person had found someone, its almost a crap shoot around here (south jersey) Like you said all lowballers and addicts- sucks to say There are good people on there too though!
No offense guys, but if you utilize Craig's List correctly, not only is it not a waste of time, but it can be a lucrative lead gen tool that filters out the price shoppers before they get to you. Definitely isn't a lowballers-only tool. In fact, if only lowballers are on there, seems an even easier way to attract customers by establishing yourself as a professional company. I haven't seen any ads of that stature on there, including mine, I am always looking at new and better ways to advertise, I applaud you for creating a professional looking ad, I agree that it would make a huge difference in the level of client. I placed several ads on there when I first started and received junk calls by the dozen, people wanting $25 and under service, which is not my level of service, but admitely my ad was of low quality. Also, I think you have to pay to put ads on there that stay, They said I could only put one ad every so often on there for free and it only stayed on there for 24hrs then it was gone, not sure about this. Anyway, good job! you guys look like your doing a good business. I'll have to check into CL again.
I run a newspaper ad in the spring for 6 to 8 weeks for cleanups, mowing and mulching and then usually one in the fall for leaf cleanups and plowing. I didn't run the fall one this year. A lot of my work comes from referrals from customers and neighbors passing by. I'm not really trying to grow my business or I would advertise more. I had pretty good luck selling firewood on CL but that's all I've used it for...for the business anyway.
P.S. - I used to run a Yellow Pages ad but cancelled that last year due to cost and lack of response from it.
