i am asking this for my own lawn...I rented a aerator last spring and used on my lawn when I moved in...but that was cause my lawn looked like concrete...now this summer my lawn is looking really good and the ground seems to be soft. Should I do this again? Or does it not need it? My local garden shop has these aerator strap on shoes....they have 2" spikes....just walk in the yard with them on... would those work/help??

    Scott,
Lots has been written on aerating and suffice it to say that it is beneficial to aerate at least once a season dependant on type of soil and degree of compaction of the lawn.
Don't waste your time or money on the shoes. Just aerate in the fall and keep the lawn watered and fertilized and your off to a good start.

If you want to know more just search for aeration above.
    Good luck.
