Hello guys, just wondering just how important is the company logo? I would like to try my hand at logo design before I shell out the money to have someone else design it. I know it has to be legible but what are some other keypoints to a successful logo design and just how important is a fancy logo as apposed to something that just states your company name, services and contact information?

    Thanks

Do yourself a favor like I did.

Pay somebody else to do it. I used Logoinn.com, but there are many other sites, along with local graphic artists, print shops, etc. I had an idea of what I wanted, gave them info about my company, and they had 3 proofs for me in a few days. Good company to deal with, but there may be a cheaper option out there. For less than $70, you can have a professionally designed logo that you'll actually enjoy looking at.

I always believed that a logo can be and in many cases is your "first impression." It should be clean and professional looking. I see so many logos that are "works of art", but are far too complicated for emproidering on garments, trucks, printeded material, etc. I'm not saying that you can't be creative - just not too complicated. Good luck!

I'll try my hand at it. I appreciate all of the feedback and thank you 93Chevy but if all else fails I'll be looking to my uncle for logo design as he owns his own sign business.

It goes both ways. If you spend big bucks and have the entire truck/rig colored to the point where it stands out in a professional manner...it does work. On the other hand if your work is good and develope a good rep...no lettering at all works fine. I did not even have my phone number on the truck or a way to find it for 4 years.

Wow, nice to know! It's neat to see how far you can take this business.

Basic lettering works for me, simple, clean, does the job. Name branding is important, but your work shines over everything else. Maybe it's visual for some people, who like the fancy looking logos and may attract them, but if the work isn't as good as the label, then the label means nothing. .02cents.

Take a look at my truck, in my avatar and click my name and look in my photo albums. A customer/artist did the drawing of a guy with a spreader along with the lettering for the truck door. Same logo appears on my business cards, stationary, bills, brochures, estimate sheets, envelopes, could have put it on shirts and hats and jackets, also.

I also have magnetic signs for sale. They read "JUST SAY NO TO"
and underneath there is a choice of three "WEEDS", "CRABGRASS", OR "GRUBS". Big bold black letters on white background.

I also am selling magnetic door signs that say "Professional Lawn Care".
