I am looking to start a landscaping and lawn care business in the Spring. I am curious how you have your business set up. Are you 1) fly by the seat of your pants not licensed, 2) a LLC 3) Corporation or 4) Sole Proprietor?

Im set up as a LLC. Its definitely not a good idea be unlicensed. I would suggest goin with 2-4 as one of your options they al have different benefits depending on what state your business will be formed in.

I definitely don't plan to be unlicensed. I just know that many people are.

1).. been in business for 16 years never had a problem.. jk

I created a Federal Corporation (Canada) just because I spoke to many employees over the phone, did hours of research and figured it was the best for me.

The best thing about the corporation I found was the separated legal entity.
Having its own rights and privilege apart from the shareholders, so basically if someone sues you, they can only acquire the corporations asset and not your personal stuff, unlike a business.

But thats just me, you should really do lots of research before and talk with many people that work in the business industry. I've spoke for hours on the phone with people who work with Corporations Canada, very helpful tool.

I'm set up as an LLC. It the best form of business ownership for a small business, IMO. Many benefits for the right price.

If your solo, you will loose a lot of tax benifits forming an LLC,

A simple DBA will work fine untill you get larger.
