I was debating on buying a used ZTR with a large deck or buying a second deck for my walker and was trying to figure out how long it takes to switch decks. I was also wondering how hard it was to switch decks. Was thinking of getting anywhere from a 52-72 inch side discharge deck. Anyone have experience with this?

I have only switched a 48" ghs and a 42" mulch so I do not know about the larger decks. The first couple of times it probably took around 15 minutes till I got a pattern, then it only took about 5.

Just a couple of minutes with 2 guys. It might be kind of tricky solo though.

It took me about an hour the first time, and i had to call the dealer twice for info. during the process. The next time it took about 5 minutes.
It is very easy to do, after you get a little practice at it.

I have done this for a few seasons. I started with the 42GHS and needed a bigger SD deck. I bought a 52SD with double blades. I highly recommend this combination. I could change this deck out in under 5 minutes, by myself. Like anything, there is a technique but once you got it its second nature. The 52SD is a heavy deck but it has wheels to move it around. When you learn to let the springs help you, you have it made. I had to store ming upright on the trailer so it took me a little time to unstrap it. After that its just moving things around. I am not a small dude (not tall but not small) 5-9 215# and I can see a smaller framed person having a little trouble. I know the 62 and the 74" decks are hefty also so if you are not a little stronger than the average desk jockey, you should consider buying a Z also.
Really look at the 52SD with doubles. It is a great deck that sprays clippings and works in all situations. Now eat your Wheaties :weightlifter: and start mowing.

A couple of minutes once you have it down. Hardest part for me is lining up the splined shaft.

Keep the shafts greased and Keep a can of white grease handy so when you have the PTO off you spray the spring release ring each time so it doesn't seize up and you can do it by yourself in under 5 minutes.

Thanks, I might try getting a deck instead of a whole mower. I only have a couple of large accounts that I can use a large mower at. Now, I just need to find an affordable walker mower deck.
