I was wondering if anyone had some speculations on how much weight my truck can hold. 1996 dodge ram 2500 8 ft bed with 2 ft sides.

Are you asking about weight or volume? An 8' box filled level with the top will hold 2 cubic yards, so with 2' stake sides on it you can probably double that volume. As far as weght goes... That's dependent on your wheel-base, engine and 2x4 or 4x4.

    Gas or Diesel.

If it's gas, is it the V10 or the V8

Also, what transmission do you have. This will effect GVW and payload capacity.

    Automatic

    or

    Manual

Now on to the wheel base. We have established that you have an 8 foot box. Do you have a regular cab (2 doors), an extended cab (rear seat with some half assed backwards opening doors if your lucky) or a crew cab (4 real doors with a back seat)
