How much do anti scalp wheels help?

Do they prevent alot of scalping? I noticed that alot of the smaller (< 52") decks dont have an anti scalp wheel on the discharge side. Will that increase the chance of scalping (especially with the bagger)? Thanks for your input.

Anti-scalp wheels only prevent the deck from digging in the turf when the deck gets too low.
    Think about it...
On smaller decks the discharge side is right between the front and rear tires and chances for the deck to dig in the turf are pretty slim.

AnitScalp wheels are worthless IMHO. my exmark maybe has one left, they seem to cut and scalp the turf because they dont have full movement, they need to make a wheel that is like a ball

Anti scalp wheels serve two purposes to me. One is to protect the turf. The other is to protect the deck when you are coming off a steep hill and there is pavement at the bottom. They keep the deck from careening itself on the cement. I'd have a concave deck by now if it wasn't for them.
