Just curious what the market is like to find out what some of your employees make for mowing and such. I'm in Indianapolis and don't anticipate hiring anyone yet until I get enough accounts, but I was looking to get an idea in mind if and when the day comes.

    Thanks.

i would start someone out at $8 then if they show me they can do everything and keep up with me then i would bump them up to $10.50

$15 an hour to mow, mulch, etc.
$20 an hour for crew chief (multiple mowers)

What do you guys think about starting out an employee at say....$8 and hour, but if the employee goes the entire year without missing a day (unexcused) you will give them a bonus of $1 for every hour they worked at the end of the year. If they miss a day it drops down to .75 cents for each hour worked and so on....in .25 cent increments? This is a little off subject, but an idea to lower turnover rates.

Any opinions? Also, $8 an hour is a relative figure...could be anything.

That would be a very hefty bonus,( $1.00 per hour), $ 1500.00 +

I start out at $10.00 an hour paid thru lunch. I am only big enough though for one employee right now and use college kid so he is free all summer. Not too bad...Alot better pay then he can get anywhere else and always works hard. If I am able to though, I want to put him on salary when he graudates and keep him for good. I am just now venturing into commercial, so depends on what I can get I guess. I am good friends with him so I know he will stay for awhile if on salary and good worker, I figure its a win win situation. I want to be big enough where I can hire another part timer and let him and new guy be one crew, and myself and possibly another guy for another crew.

My guy gets $14.00 per hour,3/4 ton truck, cell phone. Last year he had 2 guys under him that got $10.00 ea per hour. This year, just him and I. He pays for his gas, except when we pull a second trailer,I pay for every thing else. Over 40 hours is time and half and he adverages 45 hours per week.
