I am thinking through this morning how much I should put away for truck repair and replacement. Right now I drive 600-900 miles a week and I hope to switch to diesel next year.

So I was thinking in the ball park of 5 cents a mile for maintenance and 10 cents for replacement. I buy used also. That would give me a $10,000 replacement every 100k. What do you all think?

Im running a 2000 Chey cutaway with 18' box, gas burner.

    I figure .80$ per mile.

    .40 in fuel

    .15 in replacement cost

    .20 in maintance

    .05 in insurance and misc.

So your looking at $35,000 in a 100,000 miles???? For replacement and repair. For me that's $10000 a year. That seems a bit over the top. I drive 600-900 miles a week. My main tow vehicle is a dodge 98 1500. I bought for $2000 4 years ago haha I've put 90,000 on it in 4 years and my this year year will be over 30k on it in a year.

Ya with that I would have a new truck with waranty every 4 years.

Probably real close, however Im averaging 10000 to 12000 miles per year. So over a 10 year period its not that bad.

A 1/2 ton 2000$ pu will be a lot cheaper to operate. Im at 1 and 1/2 tons and 6 "T" rated tires.

Ya I could see that then. I should be up grading to a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel next year. Hope its a manual and I can get 16-20 mpg towing with a new mods :)

Im halfway looking for another "cheap" box truck.

My idel set up would be a astro van or a small pickup and a 21" mower. That would be real sweet on expenses.

You would be in good shape!

I keep a toro grandstand, bop 44, leaf vacumn, snapper 21" 60 gallon trash can tools etc, and still have room to haul off all the clipping from a days work. Im also considering putting in a bathroom.

A box truck to me is the ultimate truck, its just not cheap to operate.

If I reach my 60s Ill likely scale down and do only small yards.
