    With that said.

    If my average job is 20k. And I do a few of those a month.

    Whats a $500 a month truck payment for a nice new truck? Peanuts compared to my sales right? Thats like 1/40th of just 1 job......

    Thats how it starts right there.

    The path to bankruptcy is a trail of peanuts.

    There is lots of good info, but there is also some perceptions.

    Not much has been said by any other than a couple of people about having a business plan. Seriously it is you most valuable tool.

    Thank you to those that have pointed that out.

    Back to topic I'd like to address. Failure and success relies less upon your size whether solo, mid, or large than it does on how you plan.

    If a guy has three, four, five, six, or twelve trucks and little to no debt and a solid plan then he will most likely succeed. But even preparation is not everything.

    Holy smokes. I have not stopped typing since i started this thread. almost 6 hours straight..

    For such a "negative" thread about bad stuff.....I find the responses motivating as hell.....This was the first time i put the "whole story" into words. My employees and family dont even know the story.....Its quite refreshing actually....

    Keep the comments and questions coming add any experience or advice you have.

    I think a thread like this would be great to keep going. Having these kinds of talks on here will make us all better business people.

    My wife just called ready to call out the search party. Im headed across the yard....probably to the couch....haha

    Yes honey, size matters. But if you know what youre doing you can work around it.

    That also drives me crazy that so many people on this site tell contractors to buy buy buy instead of rent equipment. If a guy asks should I buy or rent a skidsteer for a one month install at say 2000 dollars and several folks say stop wasting your money and buy........ But he only uses it for two small jobs a year. Goes back to your slowly going under and not knowing it. That rental looks a lot better a year down the road when you can't pay the rent.

    This hit the nail right on the head. Read and reread. You can have the best business plan but keep in mind that its usually just a vision of what is to come. What until reality sets in that will till you right away if your business plan what on track or not. Caution, reality can be punishing.

    Great thread!

    I stress lots about how to grow in a controlled manner. I know that my business is in good shape, but this thread is going to make me take a day or two and put everything under the magnifying glass and look for the "gotchas" that may be hiding.
