How do I get rid of Dandelions?

I purchased my house back in 1998, and the first 5 years I didn't do anything to my yard. I had no idea what fertilizer was or the first thing about taking care of a yard.

I've tried Scotts Lawn fertilizer with Dandelion, and it kills them, but they come back even stronger the following year, because the root is there.

This year I decided to pull them up by the root by hand, and I couldn't believe how big the base was. I have some that are 2feet wide when you pull them up by the root, with a hand held weed digger. I have tons of them in my backyard.

Does anyone have any recommendation on how to remove the root more effectively?

I read in the following article that there is a dandelion digger. Any ideas where I can get one?

Is there something I can attach to my power drill?

    Thanks.

What type of spay? I've different types of spray at Lowes, they didn't work either. My roots are still there, still growing.
