I've been working solo for the past couple of years.. it worked fine throughout high school, but i am a freshman in college this year and doing all the work this fall has been quite a strain. I think i need to hire a crew for next season. what is the best way to hire employees and how do you pay them? things i should watch out for?

My employees prefer to be paid in US dollars. You could pay in Canadian Dollars, Euros, Yen, whatever.

get pub 15 from the IRS. Go to irs.gov and you can download it there, or order it. That will tell you what rate you need to withhold what, and when to send it in. Its very simple.

Do a search on here for "piece work" and check out how it is done. This is the best way to pay in my opinion. If you want to discuss, send me a private message.

pay by the hr. $12 for crew head and $8 for helper. Set a minimum amount of work that needs to be done each day and check with ur customers frequently to make sure things are going well. also make them do a maintenance list and sign off on it each maintenance day(fridays) for us which inslude greasing equip and truck blade sharpening etc.
