Can anyone tell me how to go about reseeding a patch of a lawn that has been eroded, is sunken in, and bare? It appears that the soil is quite compacted also. Thanks in advance.

Is continued erosion going to be an issue? Also, how large is this "patch"? Regardless of those answers you will need soil to bring the area back up to grade. Once that has been completed purchase a generous amount of seed from your local hardware store and spread a moderate amount onto the area. Rake it in to ensure good seed/soil contact and water it in. Keep the area well watered until the seed has established itself.

fill in sunken area, grade to level, over seed with a quality seed, if the area is steep with runoff, use a erosion control mat or a soil stabilizer like cotton fiber in a hydro mix keep off, keep watered, keep smileing
