The biggest faux pas I see is guys scalping the shizz out of the grass instead of making it level with the rest of the turf.

Flip the trimmer upside down and edge beds n driveways, Looks better, and much faster to complete.

Around here a stick edger wins hands down. Plus an edger blade will outlast and cost less than all the line you go through. Works up north but not so much down here.

If I told my guys to trim, they would get out the hedge trimmers. lol

I tried being correct one time when I ran an ad to hire a new guy. Said "must be experienced with a line trimmer." I got a bunch of replies "I know how to do all that stuff except, what the heck is a line trimmer?"

"Weedeater" makes the least sense, seeing how nothing gets "eaten." It's just what we called it back in the olden days when I first started, and no one has come along that doesn't know what I'm talking about.

Yep, if we educate them enough, we might be looking for a new job.

Still requires them to get off the couch in August. I'm not worried.

Good job on discussing some how-to techniques of properly using a trimmer to the advantage of the operator and the lawn.
It is a skill to use a trimmer the "right way" and you made some good points! :)

I say, Im going to weedeat or use the weedeater. It's just like calling the remote the clicker. Whatever works for you.

    Good writeup.
