Today I was working on my sprinkler system that only has two zones in it and came across a problem. When I ran the first zone everthing came on okay and then when it was time to for the other zone to come on, the first zone still stayed on. When I checked the controller it said only zone two was on when in reality both were. When I was working by the valve box I could hear a hissing noise like a leak, but I kept digging around the valve and couldn't find a leak. What do you think the problem is ? Thanks Andy

Bad coil, dirt in the valve or too much pressure for the first valve to close fubared controller.

I'd check the coil first if it's OK, clean the valve and make sure the body and the diaphram aren't damaged (a tiny nick or scratch will keep it open). If that doesn't work; start zone one... let it run a bit then open zone two, if one doesn't close after a minute or so, you can either set a valve delay so that the valve can close before the other opens, or you can adjust the flow through the valve down until it closes.

I believe that those valves use the reverse flow solenoid porting. A weak spring in the solenoid could cause it to stay open.

What do you mean by combo?

valve & AVB combined into one unit... If so, Sprinkus is right "reverse flow solenoid porting". Check the coil...

Well I unscrewed the top off and I found a decent amount of pvc shavings from I put in a new shut off valve since the other one cracked. Thinking that was the only problem, I put everthing back together, and once the I turned the water back on water started leaking of the valve. I thought I didn't have it screwed down enough, but it still leaked. Examined the diaphragm and there was a crack near the outer edge. Went to go get a new diaphragm and they no longer carry parts for HPV. So the ordered them and hopefully this will fix the problem. What an adventure!!!
