I am putting in a Sprinkler system and have two quotes from contractors that are basically same in price. One will be using Hunter products and the other will be usine Weathermatic products (LX).

Can anyone give me some advice on which product is better? Hunter or Weathermatic.

    Thanks

The product is only a portion , its the contractor and his experience , and after the sale support. Get more estimates . Which is better? Neither

    Hey londons-----

Both are well established manufacturers. Like MD suggested, after the sale support could be important. Ask about each ones warranty. It's just a preference of brand with each contractor. One person likes one over the other, like cars, some prefer ford, some dodge, or chevy. Hunter, today, is probably more popular. But, weathermatic has been around a long time. Maybe consider the contractor, who you think will work with you the best.

It is true that a contractors experience and attitude toward the customer is important. You are there employer when you buy a system from them. Get references. What kind of warrenty do they offer? Will they be in business next year if you have any problems. Remeber that an irrigation system is permanent. You would be better of with a Wal-mart hose end product than a bad system.

No one company makes the best products across the board. Some make valves better others have better controllers. ask them why they use that valve or controller over another. ask to see the differnce in price on different products. Are they selling you Hunter because they really believe in thier products or is there a sell at the local supply house?

Londons, I am doing my system myself, and have been asking many questions lately, all of which have been answered well. Do an advanced search using my moniker, or take a look at some of these links to get an idea of what to look for:

I am just a wee home owner like yourself, but I have come to the opinion that outside of a few exceptions, I can't go wrong using contractor-grade parts vs. the HD or Lowe's cheapie variaties. RB 1804's seem to be an exception there.

    Good luck!

Here at least, Hunter parts are easier to find at the suppliers. All of them carry Hunter. Only one has much WeatherMatic. I prefer Hunter.
