husqvarna 326 issues

    last year the trimmer ran fine, this year i'm having a few issues with it not running as smoothly as it should. cleaned air filter, adjusted the carb a bit, and got it running a little better. however i'm having trouble getting it to idle consistently. it either wants to die or spins with no throttle. I can adjust it and get it idling right, then use it awhile and its back to either dying or idling high, adjust it again, use it some more and same thing. when i turn it upside down to trim half the time it starts idling higher. seems to have no relation to how much fuel is in the tank either. last year i had to run fuel with ethanol through it, this year i found a station that has ethanol free so i switched to that this year. where should i begin? new carb?

    If a carb is cheap enough I would get it. It would take alot of guesswork out of your predicament. Could be corroded rubber pieces in there.

    Maybe a new fuel filter? Clogged muffler screen?

    Whoever's selling "ethanol free" gas is selling malarky.

    Could be sucking air, like through a corroded primer bulb.
    Feel the rubber, if it isn't soft I'd replace it.

    It sure makes a difference for me. Around here they sell it as recreation fuel, and dont let you put it in cars. But who would want to, it hovers around $5 a gallon.

    My 2 smoke equipment loves it.

    take it to a dealer and get them to fix it.

    my dad has had the 323L for 15 years and I can't count the number of times the mixture has been off or the carb had issues or whatever. they just always need to be messed with to keep them running right.

    next time buy the Husqvarna 324ldx with a 4 stroke Honda engine.

    nothing to adjust ever. I've had my Honda trimmer with the same engine for 12 years and it runs just as good as day 1 and I've never had to do anything to it. used ethanol gas the whole time. never even had to change a primer bulb. these things are bullet proof. get a trimmer with a Honda engine and you will never use anything else again.

    Have heard the trimmers with 4 cycle engines are heavier. Is that true?

    Not too noticeable with hybrid 4-2 stroke engines (stihl 4mix), but as for the hondas, they are traditional 4 strokes with a real oil sump. This makes them noticeably heavier.

    I am sure they are plenty durable like pretty much all hondas are, but I prefer lighter equipment.

    I use husqvarna 223l's they are 9lbs compared to 13lbs for the honda.

    yeah that is why i like the 326, its light. guess i'll order a carb kit and see if that fixes it. hate taking stuff to a dealer, not even sure if its still under warranty got it somewhere around this time this year. dealer isn't really convenient to get to either

    have you used a 323 or 326? exact same as the 223 but with a solid driveshaft whereas 223 is a cable. pretty much no vibration at all on them

    yeah the Honda version is 13lbs. the Husqvarna 324ldx is 11lbs though so barely heavier than a 326 or 323. you won't even notice it once you get used to it.
