What are the advantages/disadvantages of each?

I ran a gear drive bobcat for 22 years. Two years ago I upgraded to Exmark hydro. no comparison the hydro was faster and in wet conditions no worries about belts slipping.

there is no comparison between the two.The hydro saves alot of time over a belt drive. You can put it where you want without having to man handle it.I have a few properties that that I can drive the mower down beside the house but no way possible to turn it around so you would have to either push mow it or weedeat. There would be no way to back a belt drive up that far without tearing something up.
