Are you saying you think anti-stall is synonymous for anti-work as well?
Not really, it's perfect for those times when I lose track of the cutting edge and it dives so far under the grade it stops the machine, then the anti-stall catches it, but when doing small amounts of fine maneuvering around with a bit of throttle, and I have the dumping hopper up front, it got kind of annoying.
I don't see the anti-stall saving me fuel, if anything, it will cost more fuel, so maybe I can turn back the injection pump to the factory setting and let the drive pumps do more of the work.
The other option is to buy a Komatsu.
With its open centre hydraulics as opposed to closed (as used by everyone else) stall out and traction management is handled seamlessly by the hydraulics with no effect on the engine, makes for very smooth and seamless anti-bog control.
I practice it just feels like your are smoothly pushing into the pile, drive speed slows as load increases. Plenty of power is still present as it will happily spill over the top of the bucket guard but you ae never left running out of power or spinning wheels or comming to a sudden halt.
Komatsu has my vote for best traction control / anti stall in the business
No more of an issue than a bobcat would have. The hydrostatic transmission still has the same type of reliefs thata the Bobcat pumps have. The engine would stall (like in a Bobcat) or the oil would go over relief (like in a Bobcat) before any damage would happen. The "anti-stall" is only an added feature to an otherwise industry standard pump design. Trust me, if Bobcat had it and nobody else did they would be selling the hell out of it.

Anti-stall. If bobcat had anti-stall and nobody else di they would be selling thi feature like crazy.
Everyone has made such a big deal out of this feature- anti-work, anti-dig, anti-stall, etc. All CAT was trying to do was offer an added feature that would help "new operators" in their introduction to pilot machines. You don't get any feedback on the pilots and in my opinion that makes it harder for a new operator to pilots to get used to working the machine into engine lug without stalling it. It is very simple to disable if the operator doesn't like it, and likewise, since it is mechanical, it can be adjusted to the operators liking. It will not damage the pump if it is disabled. There are still reliefs in the pump just like any other hystat. heck even Ron can adjust it
That's what I have read about too, but I wasn't too fond of Komatsu, I hated the seat bar mounted instrumentation wide width and their long ass end, now even Bobcat looks like Komatsu.
This is making me think again... I think Komatsu is closed-loop whereas everyone else (or close to everyone else, anyhow) is open-loop.
If this is the case... is that why you can't stall a hystat dozer but you can stall a SSL?
Every machine is closed loop on the drive system, it has to be, or there would have to be a pressure pump just to keep the piston pumps charged and the drive motors charged with pressure.
Cat's loader, bucket and aux. systems are open center, return to tank basically.
