It was 98 degrees today with the humidity at 70%. I used my frog togs, but it felt like it barely worked. I drank a whole 4 pack of big gatorades and 4 water bottles. I would also take a rag and dip it in the cooler and ring it out all over my head and neck.

Now ive got a wicked headache because I got so hot today. Its the usual weather for south ga, but for some reason today felt over the top.

What do you guys use or do to stay cool?

We have similar weather here in birmingham. To me nothing really works. All I do is stay hydrated and hang a towel around my neck helps keep my shirt dry.

Man I feel you. We did a mulch job today. 12 yards. Fenced in back yard. Driveway was uphill then through the fence and back up the hill in the back yard which was a 4.5ft retaining wall with slopes on the sides. We would make 2-3 trips with wheel barrows and then take a break. Had 3 of us and we are wore slap out!

Sugar and extreme heat/humidity are two combinations that should not be mixed together. Try Powerade Zero instead.

I freeze a bunch of bar towels (moistened first) keep em in your cooler. Wrap a nice cold towel around your neck. I try to have one for each job after noon. Really helps cool you off. If you run out, just rinse em out in cooler water. And as already posted, try the Powerade zero. The sugar in the Gatorade might be ok for 1 bottle, but beyond that its counter productive.

Also, what are you wearing (creepy huh)? Try wearing Dickies, or other lightweight (and not 100% cotton) work pants. And a polyester or dri-z type shirts. They make a HUGE difference.

And this one may sound funny. But those little ice pack things for coolers are a lifesaver. Get a bunch of the smallest size. Just like the frozen bar towels, put one in your front pants pocket, and bring enough for each job after noon. I kid you not, you'll be glad you did.

And try to take it easy for a bit. Heat sickness is cumulative. Tomorrow you will be even more susceptible.

Be aware that the pre-mixed gatorade you can buy in convenience store's has a ton of sugar and sodium in it. The kind you mix yourself is much better for you.
