I have a chance to bid on a job that is over 1 mil. sq ft and it includes mowing, trimming and blowing. Yearly contract paid by the month. Flat ground not many obstacles in the way just a lot of land and it most be finish cut.
talked to the client and he would not give me around about price but he said that my $4062.00 per cut that i came up with was close. this is blowing my mind please help...........................
Lets see - that would be about $185 per acre. If you don't take it your crazy - I am assuming 1,000,000 sq. ft. = about 22 acres or a bit more. That correct.
OK - I think I may understand where you are coming from - I do not think you do however. A 6000K yard x .004 = $24 per mow. I do not even unload for less than $35, But YOU MUST UNDERSTAND that when you start getting into wide open large spaces, the trimming is zilch, you only turn every millenium instead of every 10 seconds, so the pricing had better reflect the ability to mow WAY more acres per hr. than you can on 6K yards with 3 buildings to trim around, drives, sidewalks etc.
In my area, $30 per acre on this size is maybe going to get the job. That adds up to $660, Not $4000+
If this is a wide open area $35.00-$40 an acre is competitive but still probably to high. He probably thought the $4K was a per month price which would be good money for a property like that. Assuming he thought your first price was per month , give a quote of $32-$35 an acre and see what he says.
Dallas area a finish cut acre w/a lot of trim, a lot of blowing and the trash is approximately $88.00 an acre. Sorry if I did not explain it good.
the sq. ftage is 1,869,868 im doing it for .002 cents per sq. ft.
if I was doing it for $35 an acre I would have to close my doors at .0008 cents a sq. ft. Thanks for the input.........

That is still $3740 per cut, which is exactly 42.9 acres done at $87 per acre. Did you get the bid. I can not believe even in the Dallas area, that the large areas pay $88 per acre. I can believe that number on the 10K yards, and maybe the 1 acre yards, but in most places, and most posts here indicate that when the properties become megaacres, there is a declining price per acre.
If you get the bid please let us know. You can probably retire on it.

Well, now we've gone from just over 1 million sq. ft. to just under 2 million sq. ft., - almost doubling the area. We have also gone from "Flat ground not many obstacles in the way just a lot of land" to "a lot of trim, a lot of blowing and the trash". This is a big difference here, but the price is still too much...I don't care where you're from.
Saw a nice Dixie Chopper extreme w/ 72'' deck and twin engines over on equipment for sale. If you do take this job, a 72'' mower will be a mandate to get it done in a reasonable amount of time. Anyway, you should make some money if ya bid it well. :waving:
I can say I learned a hell of alot today. They are getting the grass mowed by a co. that does all the cleaning and mowing, a complete package deal. The mowing is paying this co. 45k. I had no clue and I bid it like my 3, 4, 5 and 7 acre lots. My co. is not well off enough to take that kind of cut for the name. But if any of you can do this I hope my co. will grow up to be just like yours. At least I stepped up to the plate, ya I got turned down but I am wiser for doing it. But I do thank the ones who tried to help.

$45k for 22 acres, possibly 40 acres, depending on how you hold the measuring wheel, some days it has trees and trash, other days it's pretty wide open.
For roughly 35 weeks... that's be just about $1300 / week, would it not?? OR about the $4062 / MONTH.
Incidentally, around here, that would come in at around $900 per cut - depending on the amount of curb jumping and trimming.
Wow..I just figured this up, and if it is based on 50 cuts, that is right on. It is really sad, but all wide area mowing around here goes for about $20 an acre.
if the guy was blowing smoke up my &*^ i'm not sure but I know I could not afford to do it at 45k a year. some of my clients seem to think he is blowing smoke to try and lower his cost. He seemed honest to me and he stated that if this large cleaning/mowing co. was not in there then the bid I gave would be on target. That was my first BIG try so maybe in a couple of years I can afford to do that sort of thing............AS of now I only have a 42" Hustler for 8 what I thought was big contracts, I would have to buy 2 72" to handle that massive job...................and pay $4000.00 for all the insurance that they wanted, which I have not got a problem with but it did not work that way.
Win some Lose some right?
I remember talking to the guys that done it last year and they told me that it was a $10,000.00 a month job....they had no clue as to who I was.
