Today my brother fired up one of our 110s and it started and then quit. I can hold the pull rope and the trimmer will fall to the ground, its like it has no compression. Im going to tear into it tomorrow and check it out.

No problems with mine either, but one Stihl dealer here in town WILL NOT sell them. How old is it? How much use does it get?

Depending upon your trimmer's age, I'd say check the valve clearance.
Then check the spark arrestor screen to be free of accumulated debris and carbon build up.
I've got a bunch of these units and have found that hard starting/recoil pull rope resistance to be valve tolerances out of specification.

It gets used roughly 10-20 hrs per week and is roughly around 3 years old, ive got a bunch of fs-80's that I use over the 110 due to the weight difference but if I am ever in any thick or tall grass I like to use the 110. Sadly to say I will probably not buy another 4 mix engine, I have another 110 that is a bout 5 years old and a 90 that is 1 year old that have served me well but I really like the fs80's. Being that stihl has stopped making them and are selling the last of the 80s I bought a Husqvarna 323l and really like it, about the same power as the fs80 but lighter.
