I think this is a type of Japanese Holly. They have small sections of leave that are dying. Any ideas?

My guess is spider mite. Put some white paper under one of the affected branches and shake the branch. This should knock some mites loose and they'll show up as little specks on the paper.

If spider mites you will see an abundance of small webs like a regular spider makes

this winter a lot of our hollies and boxwoods are showing the same signs.....from what i can tell its mostly just wind burn or winter dessication.
