We are in desperate need for employees and I was just curious to see what others have been doing to find employees? We have posted ads on craigslist, called around to nurseries to see if they had anyone with experience come in to look for jobs, and even called around to other companies to see if they have an overflow and could send some people our way. None of these have really had much success. Does anyone have suggestions or even different ideas that they have tried? Anything helps!

    State run employment sites?

Not sure if you have any in Washington but in Minnesota we have Mnworks and in ND they have NDworks.

High school kids are an acceptable idea.... You get their parents involved which helps with the no-shows. They are young enough that they don't have a chip on their shoulder.... Some of these guys in high school now-a-days are freakin huge!!!!

This could work, it can't hurt to try. Find a good golf course close to where your business is based. Find out the name of the superintendent, call and ask if there is a time this week he or she would have a few minutes to speak to you in person about finding help. They have extremely high standards, know the market, and may be able to help you with an idea or name of a couple good people they were unable to hire.

    Good luck with your search.

Find a local Vocational,Technical School or Junior-Community College offering courses in Horticulture and Arborculture. Seek employees who are training to be in this industry. Really simple.

Run an ad in your local paper with what your willing to pay for those with experience. Money talks and the phone will ring. Mostly from those with no experience. lol

I have been dealing with this issue except I only want to hire the BEST employees. The BEST employees already have jobs with other companies. You have to steal them. I stole 3 guys this week from other companies. Its hard, you have to do leg work, but it is worth it. It is really funny to me... when I stole these guys from other companies... they interviewed me... they wanted to make sure that their work environment was an improvement and the jobs they would be doing would be unique. Out of the 3 employees, I hired... two took a pay cut to work for me and I matched one guy's hourly rate. Its not all about money, sometimes its about treating people fairly and the quality work you do. Employees want to be a part of something great and unique.
