What it takes for me to operate these days.

    EQUIPMENT ONLY
New truck $40,000/ Used truck $20,000
    Trailer $2,500-$3,000
    ZTR $5,000-$10,000
    (2) Commercial 21"s $1,000 ea.
    Sidewalk edgers $600-$1,000 ea.
Yard Marvel power rakes $1,000 ea.
    Aerator $2,000
    Trimmers $200-$300 ea.
    Pressure washer $1,300
    Various rakes, shovels, etc. $200

    OPERATING COST
    Gas $3.50++++++++++++++
    Ins. $600
Fees for disposing of daily clippings, leaves, etc. $15-$20
Tires for trucks, trailers, ZTRs, etc. $800 per year.
Oil for everything $500 per year.

I've never even had the luxury of owning a new truck, I run my tires till they are on the belts, I fix almost everything instead of replacing it. I don't see how I can operate any cheaper than I already do and these people keep asking for lower and lower prices but I'm not giving in. I can't believe they think I can run my equipment day in and day out for pennies on the dollar. I'm almost at the point where I'm not going to give free estimates anymore because I drive all over town just be told I'm to high.

You guys tell me if I'm high.

    Mowing, trimming, and sidewalk edging.
    1/8 acre $25
    1/4 acre $35
    1/3 acre $45
    1/2 acre $55
1 full acre $75 and each additional after that is $50 more.

Are these prices tailored to each property, or are they 'fixed'?

You should be getting those prices *at least* in Alabama. Don't work cheap.

I'm just curious, but what kind of edger do you have that cost $600-$1000 each? Most of the heavy duty comm edgers I've looked at and owned generally run $350 - $400+ approx and some change, or in the neighborhood.

thats what I charge in VA. But we don't have little lots.....the smallest are 1/4 acre....although I have one townhouse, but my minimum is $33 and thats what they pay.

BUT....my operating costs are much lower than yours..

    Truck: 4 grand
    trailer/racks: 1400
    mower: 5 grand
    weedeaters/edger: 800 (200 dollar models only....then trash them)
    blowers: 700 (br 85 and 550)
    trimmers: 300

1/2 acre subdivision yard in tn is going for 35-40 dollars. It can be done in 35 minutes. I think you are a little high on the prices. Not many would be paying it here in tn. I'm losing accounts because people here think im too high.
