install snap edge on base or sand?

Searched the forun but did not see anything. I normally install the snap edging on top of the base and then put the sand in and screed. Someone recently told me they put the snap edging on top of the sand after screeding and laying the pavers. Makes measuring where to install the edging easier but seems like you would get erosion near where the snap edge is installed, causing it to sink.

What do you all do? Also any thoughts on screeding crushed stone instead of bedding sand?

Thanks in advance for your input....

Pavers first, pull the sand away from edges, install edging on base.

    Base first
    Layer of screeded concrete sand
    Lay Pavers
Pull back sand from edge of Pavers with a nursery spade
    Install restrain on aggregate base

Whoever is telling you they install restraint over the sand are telling you incorrect information.

Thanks everyone for confirming what I knew, I have never done it and it sounded wrong.
