Installing river rock!

I have a few questions for my fellow lco's here!!!

I bid a job to install #3 river rock for a family last week and they come back and want me to go ahead with the job.

First question I bid $75 a yard to install plus the rock what do you guys normally charge?

Second do you think my calculations for mulch set to 1" will suffice for the rock vice the mulch?

Third when we lay the rock will it spread as easy as mulch as this will be my first rock job.

    Thanks in advance!!!

The #3 river stone is going to be heavy to move around.
The mulch is no comparison. Are you going to use a Geo-tech fabric beneath it?
    What is the application?

He wants it around his pool deck so his dog will not keep digging up his soil. I asked him about a fabric and he said all that he wants is the rock. I normally get $50 a yard to spread mulch and so I bumped it up to $75 for the rock.

I cant find much about this on the web and we are set to do the install in 2 weeks.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'm not gonna tell you what to charge, but in my opinion you're gonna want to be closer to $100/ton, if not higher. It's much harder to work with and very heavy. It does not spread easily at all. You need to calculate closer to 3" because #3 gravel is roughly 3" in diameter.

Did you take into account laying fabric under the gravel?

    Here's a couple gravel job's I've done...

No weed mat or fabric underneath will lead to rock dissapearing over timel...and weeds.
How many tons does the job call for?

What is the weight of #3 in a yard
My rate per ton installing 40 per ton with skidsteer
Wheel Barrel only 50-60 per ton + price of rock
My Mississippi river rock is smooth rock 1.5'' covers well and spreads nice

    Is there a reason to use # 3 ?
The Geo-Tech fabric is not like plastic
The reason I use it is to help with the erosion on a hillside.
If I am going to use stone on a flat surface I would just use a couple layers of black plastic pinned tightly to the ground.I would also use a smaller stone.
Moving #3 with a wheel barrel is not easy and it will be slow.
