This is the setup I made. It all closes up tidey. It has room for a laptop, printer, power inverter, spare paper, and a storage area large enough for hanging files. I am in the process of adding cupholers to the front (a must).

Very Nice set-up, I used to do some things like that for Motorola a few years ago. Hope it works out well for ya.

i once used a laptop in the truck but it died on me, i think due to the summer heat. I would even place it on the floor out of sunlight and leave windows cracked open. Have you had any problems like this?

Direct sunlight is not good. Laptops being black absorb the sun. The laptop is only out for a few minutes a day and is only primarily used for estimates and one time jobs. The rest of the time its hidden in the console where it gets hot but no direct sunlight. I also live on Capecod where we complain if it hits 85. The specs of the laptop say it can operate up to 95 degrees in temp and stored up to 122.

Travelling office.... I like that. The quicker you can get someone an estimate, the better chance you have of them saying yes. Makes perfect sense.... ahhhh technology....

I know the real reason for a lap top in your truck is to surf Lawnsite and not for billing!

I agree, nice setup, but wondering what the real benefit of invoicing on the site would be. I know it will speed up cash flow, but is it worth it? I mean, there's only so many daylight hours in the day, so I save my invoicing to be done at home, after dark, and monthly whenever possible.

I only bill one time jobs that I want to get paid for right away on the site and just give a handwritten invoice. I later enter one into quickbooks and mail them a copy.
