i am looking for an edger and a guy has a pretty much new pe200. i only edge a couple of yards. He wants $125 but i am sure he would take $100. also is it better to buy a cheap pole edger like this or buy a newer walk behind like something with a 3-4hp briggs engine on it?

just my opinion but i d say the echo pole edger is better just because lightweight and easy too manuver... i have always liked mine because edging always makes the yard look great

The PE 200 if fine for "light" edging or an occaisional "clean up". It's certainly not a brute power wise though.

We use Stihl FC90s stick edgers, more power and better on fuel. But for only a couple of yards you don't need anything more than the Echo.

WE edge every yard we do....

after much reading, it seems the general consensus is the pe200 is not very good. I also found a stihl fc95, brand new, but not from a dealer, for $275. Now i am also looking at some new walk behind edgers from sears....my wife wants to do some flower beds with edging now so i am thinking i might need a walk behind to make the trench for them?

Get the Stihl and order a Trenchblade. They are one of the sponsors on Lawnsite. Blades are awesome. Stihl is the way to go though. It will last you longer than those walk behinds and be easier to maneuver. Just my opinion.

Look for a used Echo PAS 260 or 265....you can pick one up used with the edger and trimmer attachments for around $250-$275

I have the pe200 and it is a great unit for light to normal edging. I also have the trenchblade and that blade works wonders. It is a bit under powered, but it is all I need. I use a star blade and that seemed to help. I also have a walk behind edger for heavy jobs.

    Good Luck
