Is it too late for airation

    Is it too late for airation in N E Ohio?

    You get the best results when the grass is actually growing, so I would say yes it is to late to aerate. Do it first thing in the spring.

    The only reason it would be too late is if your soil temperature is too low. I don't know what the weather is like there, but chances are if you ran your aerator, it wouldn't get the depth you want.

    Otherwise, there's no bad time to aerate.

    I'd wait until the soil temps start rising in the spring.

    Here in Central Ohio the soil has tons of moisture right now. I need to mow one more time but will probably just use the walk behind, afraid the rider will rut pretty bad on some yards. The grass has definately slowed down but there is still plenty of root activity going on. If you're seeing the same conditions a little further north, I say go ahead and aerate but don't wait much longer. The roots have to remain active long enough to reap the benefits.
