Is this mileage typical?

Just looking at this truck. Its a 2008 Ford F450. I was surprised how bad that mileage number is, considering my business class trucks are getting between 8and 14. So is that really all those 6.4's will do? I know its a heavier truck, but even my fuel pig 6.7 Dodge gets 9 pulling 12,000 pounds.

If it was used for plowing or towing/hauling heavy loads around hills, the mileage average will be thrown off.

My F250 said 8mpg all the time. I never trust the lie-O-meter on the dash.

Yep thats the norn for the 6.4 in stock form. Part of many reasons the v 10 became more popular

I had an 08 250 and last year it averaged 8.8 mpg. That was pulling about 7200# in mixed town and back road driving. It was regenerating a lot and no one could figure out why. When they could stop it from regenerating I could get about 12 mpg.

The 6.4 is capable of getting pretty good mileage as an engine itself, but then the epa came in and mandated all the emissions stuff and made it go waaaaay down to those numbers.... but If you delete the emissions stuff on that truck which isnt too hard to do, your mileage will DOUBLE. No exaggeration.

I dont get it though... They have a truck that can get 20 mpgs, but the epa says it puts out too much pollution, so they mandate all these things on it and it drops the mileage down to 8 mpgs... so yes every gallon puts out less pollution, but then that same truck needs to burn twice as many gallons to travel the same distance....:hammerhead:

Wouldnt it just average itself out both ways? They should look at the pollution created per mile instead of per gallon.

Ditto on the emissions crap, my brother's 2008 550 picked up another 5mpg's, it averages about 23L per 100 kms when pulling heavy and a light foot. But it jumps up to 26 when you drive angry.
I will say this, INSANE power with the tuner set at mild.
